Elephants

The Little Rock Zoo has long been recognized for its elephants.  When visitors come to the Zoo they don't ask "How are the elephants?" they ask for our elephants by name.

The Zoo recently acquired elephants Zina and Jewell who were donated to the Zoo by the Ringling Brothers Center for Elephant Conservation.  Zina and Jewell made fast friends after they were retired to the CEC from the circus several years ago.  Although the two never traveled with the circus together, they bonded while enjoying retirement in the warm Florida sun where the CEC is located.

Zina and Jewell now make their home at the Little Rock Zoo where they spend time together playing in the elephant yard with enrichment items and eating fresh treats provided by Zoo staff.  Zina and Jewell get regular baths and exercise frequently to keep their joints limber and their minds active.  You can see our keepers work with Zina and Jewell when you visit the Zoo!
